Does anyone know if Nabby has suited up for the Isles this preseason?
He was listed as a scratch in the first game. In the second game, both Poulin and Montoya saw ice time, which would indicate that Nabokov was not dressed for that game either.

Looks like he'll get the nod for tomorrow in Calgary.

I'm really hoping he has a great game even though it's still preseason.

I am too. Too bad its the Islanders B team going to Calgary, he'll be in tough for sure. The nice thing is Calgary has no one who can score!

It was on the Islanders page yesterday, including the lineup heading to Calgary. I will still be watching on tsn to see how he looks.

Speaking of B team's you should have seen the Hamilton Bulldogs play the Bruins in Halifax the other night. Bruins should have won 12-0.

So what are we expecting for the Islanders goalie situation? Reading yahoo notes, which you can take with a grain of salt, they're saying Nabokov & DiPietro to make the cut, despite Al Montoya exceeding expectations thus far in pre season. They noted using/showcasing Nabokov for trade bait. Would make perfect sense, then bring up up & coming Montoya. Your guys' thoughts?

I just assume DiP will be injured before the end of october, simplifying everything
So if you had a chance to take Nabby, would you? He is a FA right now in my league, I am wondering if I should take a chance on him, or wait a few weeks and see if he is still available? any advice would be good. I already have 4 goalies, Price, Renne, Backstrom and Kipersoff.....I could drop Joal ward in favour of Nabby, but I can only start 2 goalies at a time. Who is worth more Nabby or Ward????? Or just forget about him and leave my team alone for a few weeks...

With 4 goalies already he probably he probably isn't worth picking up. But Joel Ward isnt worth very much, are there any other forwards free agents better than him?

The Caps writers I follow don't see Ward as a top-six member of the forwards crew.
took a bit of a flyer on him during a very late night draft, after a day of drinking...LOL, and 2 of his brothers are in my pool, I think I need a LW then, forget Nabby. How about Penner, Jussi Jokinen, or Glencross???

Take Jussi, he is on the 2nd line in Carolina and should get you decent numbers. Penner is useless.
I think Nabokov is going to be traded to a team like the shark who need a backup. Tampa Bay also could be possible if Roloson struggles. That would leave Dipietro and Montoya and I think Montoya will be their starter.
Thanks - Jussi it is.....

Id still take Nabby, see what happens in the first few games, and then trade him if he's doing good. By then you should know more about whether or not he is being traded. I think someone in your league will trade more than what is available in the free agent pool.

HockeyGuy96 - I'm with you. I picked up Montoya last year when he started getting the starts and watched many of his games. He's the real deal, and I have a hard time believing he won't beat out Nabby or DiPietro. I don't think anyone knows what Nabby might pull......

If Nabokov finds his way to Tampa, his value could surely go up....

That is definitely an interesting thought. I could see it if Rollie flops. Tampa would be a dangerous team and Nabby would be a fantasy beast in net.

Big Ifs -- Every year I expect to see the old warhorse Rollie flop and so far he simply refuses. Could this be the year ?? Sure-- Rollie certainly isn't getting any younger but I wouldn't lay any big bets on a Rollie meltdown.
That said . . . Nabokov is a reasonable pickup anyway as he could be traded almost anywhere that has goalie troubles or conversely will get his fair share of starts for an Islanders team that is now far from a league doormat ( I would bet on the Dipietro injury-- but he will likely split starts with Montoya) The trade scenario seems likely though if Montoya again plays well (regardless of when or how long Dipietro is out)
Is the Dipietro contract the WORST CONTRACT EVER? What do they have . .. 10 more years to go ??

I drafted Nabokov as well and still not sure what to do with him since Montoya was named the starter. I don't want to drop him because I did the same
to Roloson last season and with my luck he got traded! How long are you guys holding on to him for? I was thinking about picking up Dubynk for him. My goalies are Bryz, Crawford, and Nabby but the stats in my league are gs, w, l, so, gaa, sv%, saves, ga, and minutes played..so having a goalie that is a starter is a plus with those stats. How much I wish Nabby goes to Tampa bay but Roloson looks good so far.

"I am beginning to think Nabokov will be dropped onto waivers eventually. His preseason not sharp. Depends on DPs health this month #isles" via @BDGallof
I'd love to see this happen. Don't know where he'd end up, maybe Columbus? Nabokov should be the starting goalie somewhere. It's crazy that he's sitting the bench for NYI.

He'd be lucky to be on the bench Patrick. He's probably watching from the press box while Di Pietro is on the bench. I agree, he will probably be put on waivers, but I would've thought they would like to give him a start or two to *hopefully* showcase him first.

IMO you guys are overestimating him. nothing of what i saw from nabokov this year makes him a worthy starter on any nhl team.

Looks like Montoya will get the start tonight.. you have to consider DiPietro as well.. the Islanders opened the vault for him and won't let him sit for long if healthy. But if I was an Islanders fan I would really be getting tired of the goalie carosel they have developed there... personally I like Poulin.. but with his knee injury last year... that scared me off.

How long are you Nabokov owners holding onto for? I have a chance to drop him for Dubnyk or Corey Schnieder..but thinking about waiting for 2 weeks.

I think Columbus should try to get Nabby..Mason is horrible. What do you guys think? Who else could use him?

First of all, Didn't Nabokov only start 1 game in the preseason? Of that he only played 2 periods. How does that qualify as not looking very good. Tough to do when you aren't even given a chance to play. Let the guy go somewhere else. The Isles shouldn't have picked him up in the first place. They were just out to make sure the Wings didn't get stronger.
