So is this guy the real deal? I mean the Flyers are a high octane offense, he's already got 1 goal and 1 assist in 2.5 games..he seems to be getting PP time in bunches..he's averaging over 14 minutes a game so far...interesting guy to keep a watch on I think in the very least.

He picked up another assist tonight. I have been asking about this guy on these boards and have gotten minimal response. I have my eye on Read and Smith on Nashville. I missed out on Skinner last year and I do not want to be left behind this year.

I feel you john29, I actually had skinner last year early on and traded him for nothing..mistake!

I am thinking about picking up Read, I mean I have some guys on my team that really are just fillers, and let's face it the PHilly offense is very potent and if this kid is getting PP especially..and has points in 2 of 3 games..I mean I think its a smart move. Just gotta figure out whom I'm gonna drop.

My only is issue with read is schenn. My thought is once schenn gets on the team full time, he is going to cut into reads playing time unless he forces laviolette to do otherwise.

McKenzie picked him for the Calder, surprisingly.

Read was a college UFA, and is playing 3rd line with Hartnell and Couturier right now at even strength. Playing a lot of PK time and some PP time. Has great wheels and decent skill to match. The Schenn issue is definitely something to consider, as it is hard to see who gets bumped out of the top 9 when he comes up.
One thing though, is that Read is playing RW and Schenn is a C. So maybe Couturier goes down to the 4th line C in a defensive role and Schenn centers Hartnell and Read.

I'm still kinda blown away that a top end team like the Flyers will have problems like how to divvy up the playing time of 3 Calder potential rookies.

To me, Hartnell is the odd man out. The guy has averaged 11 minutes of ice time so far, and its obvious Jagr, Simmonds, Courturier, Read, Voracek, JVR are all getting more ice time than him right now, including the power play. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if hartnell gets sent down to the checking line. I mean I dunno, 10 minutes and 11 minutes total the first two games..last nigth when they poured in the goals against Vancouver, Hartnell's name was no where to be found on the stat sheet while all those guys above were. They all saw upwards of 15 minutes and they were all integral on either the 1st or 2nd PP unit. I really have no faith in Hartnell - he didn't do much last year, he's not being used much so far...he's good for PIMs so maybe he gets moved to the checking line?

4 points last night. 6 points in 5 games now...

Read was easily the most impressive player during the Flyers' preseason so it's good to see that carrying over against fully stocked opposing teams. Not to discredit his efforts but I wouldn't put much stock in his points against Ottawa last night, everyone has been tearing it up against them. He does look like he is gaining more confidence though and Laviolette seems willing to try him in a number of situations so he can only improve throughout the season.

And I still don't think Read is at risk of being sent down once Schenn gets his callup. Honestly I think Couturier will get sent down due to the number of talented centers Philly has. That is unless they move Briere to a wing and maybe lose Nodl or Rinaldo/Shelley. I bet he'd be a great pickup in a keeper league. Especially if they trade Hartnell or someone by the trade deadline.

According to the line tracker, it appears that he is getting 1/3 of time of the 3 main PP shifts.
