Smith or Varlamov?

Already set with Rinne tonight, now I am wondering if start Mike Smith against SJ or Varlamov against Calgary...

Smith has had the better play as of late, but SJ is tough. Varlamov needs a good game and he's at home, so I'd hope he would get the win against Calgary.

Any thoughts on who might be the better start? Thanks!

Smitty is a safer start in general as Pheonix is a very defensive minded team. That being said if they have to open up because they fall behind it can be a disaster. Varly also has a more favourable match up. IMO Smitty is the guy to start.

Thanks...Phoenix does tend to score few goals, although hopefully Hanzal is all healed up - - he had put together a little scoring streak before he got hurt. Varlamov vs. Calgary, you're right it's a favorable match-up but, man, Varly hasn't exactly been exuding confidence lately.... lol

Sorry for double post but I wanted to say thanks - - I started Mike Smith and he rang up a shutout against San Jose.
