			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you&#8217;ve ever wondered if a playoff team has achieved a sweep in one playoff round only to be swept in the following round, the answer is yes.  It has happened four times during the period of 1980 through the present.</p>
<ol>
<li>1980*: Chicago sweeps St. Louis in Round 1 and then gets swept by Buffalo in Round 2.</li>
<li>1983: Edmonton sweeps Chicago in Round 3 and then gets swept by New York (Islanders) in Round 4.</li>
<li>1992: Boston sweeps Montreal in Round 2 and then gets swept by Pittsburgh in Round 3.</li>
<li>1993: Buffalo sweeps Boston in Round 1 and then gets swept by Montreal in Round 2.</li>
</ol>
<p>*Round 1 in 1980 was a best-of-five series.</p>
<p>Currently, the San Jose Sharks are down 2-0 to Los Angeles in Round 2 after sweeping the Vancouver Canucks in Round 1.</p>
<p>Here are the number of playoff sweeps by season and by round since 1980 (Round 1 was best-of-five through the 1986 playoffs):</p>
