The Short First Week in Fantasy Hockey

You might be wondering how the major fantasy hockey sites will handle the fact that the first week of the season is only two days long. We have the answers for you:

Yahoo Fantasy Hockey Managers:

The opening weekend of the NHL season (Saturday and Sunday) will count toward Week 1 of your fantasy hockey season if you play on Yahoo.

Thanks to Yahoo’s Sean Leahy for the heads up!

ESPN Fantasy Hockey Managers:

The opening weekend of the NHL season (Saturday and Sunday) will be folded into Week 1, thus making it a nine-day fantasy week.

  1. Yahoo seems to have reversed their decision since this was written. In the link you provided it states:

“Because of the shortened first week of the schedule, Yahoo! Sports has decided to combine the opening weekend of the season into Fantasy Week 12.

Week 12 of the Head-to-Head season will run from Jan. 19-Jan. 27, 2013

So it appears that week 1 (12) on yahoo will be 9 days just like on espn. I suspect they got a lot of complaints as it makes way more sense this way than to have a 2-day week.
