Thread: How MANY stat categories?

    How MANY stat categories?

I saw enough disagreement on which stats to use that I thought it might be best to first get a sense of how many stats to use. I thought it would be tougher to reach a decision with some people listing their favored 8 stats while others are listing 20. I think if we determine the number of stats we will have first we can have a better discussion as to which ones are favored

So How many stats should there be? and what should the split between goalies/skaters?

I seek some complexity and a league where strategy matters.

I think good balance could come from 15 stats with 10 being for skaters and 5 for goalies.

I agree with 15 categories and 10:5, Skaters:Goalies. That was what was listed in the other thread in the end and I really liked the look of that.

    EDIT: Seeing as other people are posting their stat choices I should probably post mine;
Skaters: G A +/- SHP PPP Blocks Hits PIM FOW SOG
Goalies: Wins Saves SV% GAA SHO

    Here is my vote:

Goals Assists +/- PIMS PPG PPA PPP FOW SOG = 9 Offensive

    W L SV SV% GA GAA SO = 7 Goalie
LWL Keeper League - G A + PIM PPP SHP SOG FW HIT BLK W GAA SV SV% SHO

Still Deciding other than Kunitz who my keepers are
No Place to go but up.

I don't think saves is a good stat at all. I also don't think we should break PPP down to PPG and PPA.

G, A, +/-, Hits, PIM, FOW, SOG, Blocks
W, L (I've never thought about that, but I like it), SV%, GAA, SO

Blocks helps to make defenseman more useful.

While I do agree that we shouldnt break down PPP into PPG and PPA I still think we should have PPP as a category for sure.

I'd like to have G, A, +/-, PPP, PIM, FOW, SOG, BLKS, HITS - W, GAA, SV%, SV, SO

As goalie stats go, I dont like adding loses and withholding saves. By including loses and not having saves it really encourages sitting your goalies after three good starts as to try and not accumulate loses. By having saves instead of loses it encourages teams to play their goalies to increase both wins(as there is no penalty for loses) and saves. Personally I'm fine with the standard 4 goalie categories of W, GAA, SV%, and S but I do oppose L and if we do add a 5th I would vote for Saves

So I guess that would make my vote 9 Skater categories and 4/5 Goalie categories

    ESPN H2H 10 Team League

Saves isn't a good category, and I see your point about losses, so I say we should just leave it at the 4 goalie stats. They're the only ones that really work.

And I meant it include PPP in my list of skater categories, I just forgot.

I like the stats being: goals, assists, shots, power-play points, plus-minus, hits, block, penalty minutes, short-handed points, wins, goals against average, save percentage, and shutouts.

So I guess my vote is for 13 stats and a 9:4 split.

I KNEW people would get into the specific stats-- its hard not to . . . I'll see where we end up-- I have some ideas I have expressed before on a 10-5 split but if we end up at 9-4 or 11-7 or something I would need to assess where we end up

    So far

    Flubber 10-5
    UK Rob 10-5
    Wings9798 10-7
    Leafs 8-5 or 9-4
    Tim 9-4

Oh and whats the issue with saves? It makes some goalies on lesser teams more playable and makes it a decision that could cost you a category to "sit". I HATE "sitting" even though I do it myself and one category that rewards continuing to play your players seems like a good idea to me.
