If it makes any difference I am a leafs fan and I have little interest in jvr. Leafs need a #1 center not another good winger

Change of scenery could be good for both of these players. The full details of the trade, which includes more than just Cammalleri and Bourque can be found in this article.

Pundits last night on sportsnet thought that the Flames got the better of the trade. Both teams claimed to have been working this for months but for it to happen so soon after Cammys 'loser attitude" comments seems like no coinincidence. The pundits believe the Habs jumped too quick.

They are citing Ramo as one of the best goalies in Europe and while the rest of the deal gives a exchange of picks and prospect to Mntreal , they felt the Flames won the deal.

The local sports radio guys love the deal for the Flames. They think it can work for now for a push at a playoff spot and it can still work if the Flames falter and go into rebuild mode

Looks like Cammy will not play with Iggy at least initially as they are saying their goal was to create a second line thats a real scoring threat

No disrespect to Borque, he's a very good player, but the just the flames making any trades at all is impressive. They have 0 cap space (which is a lot of their issue) and they traded for a player who will have all the motivation in the world to be the player that carried Montreal through the playoffs (yes along with halak). When focused, cammelari can be dominant. Borque, albeit very talented and a great team first player, is a downgrade.

I would see this as a clear cut advantage for Calgary and at a great time. If they wanna start moving up in the west it needs to be now.

Calgary actually have the cap space for this. The Regehr deal where they also disposed of Kotaliks salary and the dump of hagman mean they easily have the incremental money they need. As for next year, thay have THIRTEEN guys that have played for them this year that are FA next year.

The team for next year signed is

Iggy Tanguay Stajan Cammy Glencross Horak Bouma
Boumeester, Giordano Babchuk Butler Brodie carson Wilson
    Kipper Karlsson

Biggest ones coming off are Sarich 3.6 and Ollie at 3. (they may want to resign Ollie but Sarich will be gone-- he's been ok this year but the kids are far cheaper, faster and have more offensive upside)

    See http://nhlnumbers.com/teams/CGY?year=2012

They still show as having almost 2 million in space for this year

I agree--They are currently "only" 3 points out of a playoff spot but have to leapfrog 3 teams to get to 9th and they have played one additional game so effectively they are 5 points out. If Cammy could have an immediate impact to beat LA Saturday it would be crazy

In a scheduling quirk the Flames had not played ANYONE in the Pacific division until last night-- Nineteen of their remaining 37 games are against the Pacific-- Look at the standings-- That means 4 matches against each of

    LA 7th 50 points
    Dallas 9th 49 points
    Phoenix 11th 47 points

So their path to the playoffs is through the very teams they need to pass

I still don't love the Flames effort and drive but I must say I like their chances a little better with Cammy compared to Bourque

The cut of hagman I had not seen. That saves them quite a bit. You may find capgeek a very useful salary cap site. It has an excellent mobile interface.

Ya he played for Anaheim last night-- I think the Flames are still tagged with 1.5 of his salary-- Hmm according to the site you linked they might need another 2.5 of cap number to disappear. I would have thought the Gio, Tanguay, Morrison and Moss injuries would help there but most of those guys are pretty cheap relatively

hmm so the Flames will still need to do something-- I used to advocate waiving Stajan to the minors but he was actually becoming somewhat usefull as a bottom 6 forward before his injury-- Maybe babchuk to the minors? Its bachuk or Sarich as bigger numbers on the bubble if the d gets healthy
