It is strange I think only because it's the NHL and it's a bigger BUSINESS than it's been in a long time.

For the first point we're just not used to seeing this many injuries in the NHL since a lot of the men will play thru injuries that in most other sports the guy would be out at the very least the game he got injured. In hockey though typically even if the injury is sustained in the 2nd period you won't even know about it cause dude will keep playing. Now we're seeing a lot more guys out with "minor" injuries (relative to the NHL).

Second point - the NHL is a business and a growing one at that IIRC. I think what we are seeing now is a by-product of that. The league and the owners want to protect their investments and probably figure for these "minor" injuries it's better for their top 6 player to take a few nights off so as to not potentially lose more games or the entire season. You also have the concussions being dealt with. If the star players aren't on the ice and the teams not winning it's games attendance generally falls, merchandising goes down, national TG appearances go down, revenue from sponsors goes down (or lost), etc etc etc....

So I think the league and the owners are now leaning on the side of caution more frequently as ever, and as a result the NHL is starting to resemble other major sports in terms of dealing with injuries. Just my .01

Well put MBR . I haven't crunched the numbers. Aren't injuries up this year? What is the difference from last year as far as management protecting their players. I think they did last year as well. The game was just as fast last year too.

Anyone see any update here? I'm in first so I'm willing to take a loss this week and wait out some of these players but these injuries are mounting up on me. Fast. Ribiero, Henrique.....not easy to win when you have 3 bench players not starting.

Yea I have Ribeiro and Henrique too...and Jeff Carter, Whitney, Markov and Liles. Needless to say I'm gonna have to drop 2. Right now it's looking like Whitney...then it's either Markov or Carter.
