    Selecting Keepers

I also thought the all star break was a great time to look at keeper players for my Brawlers team as it can realy influence trades before the deadline. This is a 10 team league with a roster of 25-- stats in my sig -- we keep 12-- any positions

    - My team

C Roy, Ott (LW), Z Smith , Brodziak, Benn (LW)
LW Hartnell, Marchand (C), Neal (RW), Lucic , Benn (C)
RW Iginla, Vrbata, Callahan, Doan (LW) bertuzzi (LW) Neil
D Chara, Weber, Letang, Enstrom,Boychuck, Hamhuis, McDonagh
    G Anderson, Elliott, Kipper, Miller

This team is in first but there are no superstars-- I just think I have a lot of good mid-level talent but this makes keeper time tough-- I am strong on the wings and weak at C is my assessment.

    Keepers

Kipper, Anderson, Weber,Hartnell, Neal, Marchand, Chara, Lucic, Callahan, Letang, Benn Thats ELEVEN-- all hit (well neal is marginal LOL) and have good plus minus and PIMS

Bubble -- Iginla ( shots high and good PP but older and a minus player) Miller ( possible superstar but his performance this year bleehh --posible trade candidate??) Doan , Enstrom (scores but few hits or Pims, Elliott (I know a backup but what numbers!!! )

I know some will disagree but I am now thinking I try to package some bubble folks for a superstar--

Please feel free to disagree-- I wavered a lot in creating this list--

1). I would not keep Elliot. Makes no sense. Halak is starting 75% of the games and posting shutouts like mad. Elliot has fallen off (mostly from lack of work). Try trading Elliot for tuuka if you want a backup keeper. He at least has a shot of being a starter in the next 2 years.
    2) next year iginla will still be an elite player hes only going to be what, 34??? it's hard not to keep him of the remaining. That being said, look at it this way...assuming at some point miller remembers his name(like he did last night) and you think back, I kept Anderson instead of miller...you will question your own intelligence and/or find a frying pan to hit your head with. It's a funny analogy but think about it. Last year in one of my leagues I tossed back malkin. Don't I look dumb now??? Yes this is part of the fun with keepers but avoid frying pans...keep miller.

Considering you can name your team flubbers fighters (bashers is appropriate), why keep Lucic? Yes he's talented, but he's at best offensively a 75 point player. At BEST. This team isn't gonna need the hits blocks pim...trade him for a pure shooter, and package someone else if you need (kovy? Nash? Couture?). The team is very solid. No arguement there. I'd try to get a real shooter and add to the group, alongside Neal(yes he's legit). If you are really planning on keeping Anderson over miller, trade miller and someone for a legit elite talent. But dont give him away!!!

just think about that bud..."I threw back malkin...". "I let Ryan miller go". Don't let one fluke season let you bail on someone with that kind of talent. Frying pans hurt.

Benn, Neal, Iggy, Webber, Chara, Letang, Enstrom, Anderson, Kipper, Roy, Hartnell, Callahan. It's not cut an dried, and next week I could change my opinion somewhat, but those guys are worth a look.

It is also worth looking at tossing somebody a package for a keeper you're interested in. I really like your D and would hope you keep a lot of those (as apparent in my keeper suggestions), Benn and Neal are no brainers. I don't like Miller, he's over rated and on a bad team. Anderson is under rated and on an up and coming team. After my goalie suggestions is where my picks start to get wishy washy and could change.

    Thanks guys

    1. Nightparade-- Your picks are very similar to mine-- you picked Iggy and Enstrom and deleted Lucic (since I only picked 11

    2. SGTSteve0- thanks for all the comments-- lots to chew on there-- and yes my "Brawlers" are aptly named (15-0 in hits and 11-3-1 in PIMS)

It seems like Iggy and Lucic are a point of contention

    Iggy 18 goals 21 assists minus 6, 30 PIMS, 12 PPP 0 SHP, 153 SOG, 73 Hits
    Lucic 17 goals 20 assists, plus 7, 88 PIMS, 8 PPP 0 SHP, 83 SOG, 107 Hits

I live in Calgary and am a season ticket holder and while he is definitely an upper-echelon guy he is nowhere NEAR the player he was just a few years back and at 34 to Lucic's 24 I wonder about letting Lucic go. I do see that with scoring similar, I may have more need of Iggys shots than anything else ( I am 5-10 in SOG)

My current thought is to try to package Iggy and Miller for Malkin of maybe a Sedin ( I am 4-10-1 in assists!!)

    3. Miller -- you two have highlighted my intenal struggle about this guy. He often sits behind Kipper/Anderson or because I don't trust him not to ruin my goalie week but he does have that aura of 'being elite"-- BUT he is only .914 on his career while Anderson is .913. Really otehr than his one year of a .929 (09-10) all his other years have been .906 to .918-- those are good numbers but not exceptional at all. Right this second there are 5 playing goalies above ..930 this year (rask, Elliott, Thomas Lundy and Quick) and a further 9 that are over .920-- So every year but one being below .920 doesn't scream elite to me. Yet he is alwats spoken of in that light

I might keep Miller but if I keep him and Iggy that emans I delect a Lucic or don't get an Enstrom on my team

I would definitely not keep Enstrom. He's having a frusterating year, and there are plenty of talented young defensmen playing/or coming up soon. Save your keepers for others....
