Thread: Check-In/Sign-Up

I received a PM a while back regarding the league but didn't check in here very often through the summer. I might be interested depending on the set-up, cost, etc.

Some of the things have been decided already (stats, roster) and some still need to be. We filled two leagues and we have about 5 more that there isn't a spot for. I think we could do a third league though.

You were one of those who sent me a PM after we already filled two leagues. Again, I think we can form a third league though.

I know there was debate about keeper vs single year but we've almost got enough that if we went non keeper for all of them it could evolve into a champions league type of thing. This year we all play like normal, and next year the best of the best play in one league while everyone else plays in the others. You could do it relegation style where the bottom teams in the champions league are replaced by the top teams in the others... Too complicated? What do you think? Or is there too many who want keeper that it wouldn't work?

It's a good idea I'm just not sure who would start in the top league. I think everybody here is pretty hardcore about fantasy hockey considering they post on a fantasy hockey website so it's not like anybody here is miles ahead of anybody else (Well I am but that doesn't count ). Also I think people will want the keeper instead of single year format.

If you had two non keeper leagues of 16, you would simply assign randomly in year one and then have the top 8 from each make up the premiere division next year while the bottom 8s make up div2. Then in ensuing years you have a predefined number of teams move up and down.

I am actually in a 3 division KEEPER league that is like this. The big wrinkle since it is a keeper is that if you win div 2 you inherit one of the bottom two teams in premier. Similarly the two managers that drop from premier inherit one of the top two teams in div 1. The Managers involved see it as a good challenge to win a division and then the next year take on a last place team and try to avoid relegation and then build. Most think it takes about 3 years to realistically contend.

But here I understood that the intent was one keeper and one non keeper league. Perhaps there may be more than that but I guess we will find out when actual set up is happening later this month and in September

What I meant was use this first year as qualifying. Say top 4 in each league then becomes the champions league for next year. It becomes a year over year thing trying to hold spot in the top league, while those outside are trying to get in and relegate the bottom teams into the "lower" leagues.

Problem is its almost impossible to do with keepers since guys would have the same players on their teams when they move leagues. If one or all leagues are keepers this all becomes irrelevant anyway haha. Seriously looking forward to this though, these leagues are going to be tough!

EDIT: exactly like flubber had it. You could then say top three move up and bottom three move down. But I do also know there was interest in keeper, myself included.

Not impossible at all. As I said I am in a keeper like this. What happens though is if you win the division, you surrender your team and then inherit one of the bottom two teams in the next higher division. It could be a team you hate. (since we promote two teams, it is the first place team that gets the choice as to whether they take the first pick or their choice of the two teams ... Almost everyone chooses the team since with 8 keepers per team and keepers not yet declared its tough to see much difference in the picks). Of the two relegated teams, the second last place team gets the choice.

So it can be done in a keeper....but it takes a certain mindset to be willing to build a team into a winner and the have to start all over with a last place squad with a new group of opponents

We could do three keeper leagues, but limit the number of keepers so they have some impact, but not huge impact when switching between leagues through relegation/promotion. Maybe next year we have 3 leagues, maybe 4-5 keepers on them, and randomly assign managers to the leagues. If there are 12 teams in each league, the top 4 from each league move into the "championship" league the following season. Maybe that league would scrap its keepers just for the one season when it becomes the "championship" league. The top two teams from each non-championship league would bump the bottom four teams from the championship league each year.

I wish I knew enough fantasy hockey nuts to implement something like this myself - maybe we could pull it off here in the LWL Hockey Nut Forum!
