Are Lupul + Kulemin not on the IR?

Lupul separated his shoulder and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks ... sounds like an IR injury and not a 'dtd we'll just scratch you'
Kulemin broke his finger in the Leafs' previous game on Tues vs. FLA ... I don't see that either as really being a 'dtd' injury.

Is there a reason they aren't putting them on the IR?
I know the Leafs have used 3 of their 4 call-ups ... is it a league rule you need X # of active people on your big team roster? If so, then obviously both can't be on the IR as we could only be able to call-up 1 person.

Really, putting them both on IR would I'm sure save the team enough $$ (they both make a decent chunk of change) that they could afford to use their last call-up and keep that player on the roster for the rest of the year as I'm sure they'd 'save' enough money w/ those 2 on the IR than that AHL call-up would be getting paid for the rest of the season.

I think Mike Brown too has an injury ... but that very well may just be a bruised hand or something of that nature as I think in the PHI game or WSH game he got into a hay-maker battle and left the game. Rosehill has been in his place ever since.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe putting them on the IR would only give them Cap Space, not real $$, as players still get paid on IR.

And since the Leafs don't really need the cap space right now, I don't think that's an incentive for them to be there.

Sorry though, that doesn't answer your question. There must be some reason players don't get put on the IR though, ex. Mike Green when he was out for so long in the middle of the season, was only retroactively put on the IR a few days before he returned...

I just have no idea how much free space we have under the cap. I think we have a few mill but anyways...

You can exceed the 23 man roster - or w/e the # is around that - as long as those additional people still fit in under your team's salary cap.
Already called up Ashton Carter so that's a pro-rated entry level salary for the rest of the season to add and if we call up another (as we probably will w/ Lupul + Kulemin done for the season, and the status of Mike Brown a big ?) we'll need them to play out the season and we'll need to have enough space for their pro-rated salary for the remaining 13ish games to fit under our cap.

Hopefully Darcy Tucker's remaining $1mil buyout doesn't put us over, hahaha
