Top 5 Draft Picks for 2012-13

I'm purposely not going to name any categories here for the sake of discussion but let's say that you have a top 5 draft pick for next year; who do you pick?

I'm also not saying which pick you get because that narrows discussion even more and somebody could easily pick a player you rank lower before you get to pick anyway.

So, I'll add some more stuff later when I think about this a bit more but at the moment I would have to pick Malkin #1 and Giroux #2. Ovi and Stamkos are also big players but I put them behind Geno and Claude from this year's performances. Lundqvist and Rinne are my two top Goalie targets and depending on the league itself I might pick them ahead of one of my top skaters if the analysis works out ok but let's hear some other opinions too.

    RW - Wheeler, Read
D - Pietrangelo, Timonen, Shattenkirk, Franson, Faulk, Schultz
    G - Niemi, Halak, Elliott
    IR - Fasth, Tanguay

I agree essentially with what Tim has. Although I'd put #1 as a toss-up between Malkin and Crosby, and #3 as a toss up between Giroux and Stamkos. Lundqvist gets the #5 because most of the other traditional "big names" have been lacking this season. St. Louis, Perry, Ovi, Sedins all had pretty steep drop offs from last season.

I know that's top 10 but....I have my reasons for ranking them that way that are obviously somewhat biased by my current scoring format. And when I look at ranking players for a draft we have to keep in mind 2 things IMO:
    1. We are building a TEAM; and
    2. This is for fantasy scoring purposes

P.S. I personally wouldn't draft Stamkos in the top 15 or either of the Sedin's but like I said its bias from my leagues scoring format coming into play. Goals and assists do not necessarily make the "best" fantasy player(s). I'd draft Callahan in the top 15 as well
