“The best way to characterize it is it’s time to not pursue Rad anymore,” Poile said. “If he wants to play in the KHL that’s fine, if he wants to play with another NHL team I’d be willing to trade his rights.”
When asked if it would be safe to say that Radulov won’t be with the Predators next season, Poile said: “I would say right now that would be safe to say.”

I thought he was in his last year of his contract and really, it was over.
His KHL team's regular season was over and the playoffs were going on but he was not in them so his KHL team allowed him to join the NHL team as long as the rest of his contract was 'bought out' by himself (or the Preds -- somebody).
How did his rights get traded? Doesn't necessarily mean he's going to play in the KHL
