Back Story on the Giroux Surgeries

As we noted in our news feed, Giroux had surgery on both wrists on May 19. There is an interesting story behind the cause (Sidney Crosby) for those surgeries that should make the upcoming season even more fun if you're an Atlantic Division fan.

“Those are from (Sidney) Crosby,” he says half smiling, but with some tension in his voice. “Every time we'd line up against each other for a face-off during our (2012 playoff) series, instead of going for the puck when it was dropped, he'd hack me across the wrists. I ended up playing the series against (New) Jersey with one of them fractured and had to go for surgery on both of them after we were out of the playoffs.”

Which part, Crosby hacking or Giroux whining and complaining? I think this guy has a secret man crush on Crosby in that he wants to be him and but knows he can't.

Don't get me wrong, Giroux is a GREAT player, one of the league's elite, but I don't like this guy. he is just as bad as Crosby for chirping and playing dirty (see 1 game suspension). When things didn't go well in the NJ series, he got flustered and started chirping, just like Crosby did when things got rough and philly got in their heads.

Giroux is as guilty as anyone in the league. Though this may be true, I doubt Crosby is the only guy. Flyers players will find any way they can to villify any Pittsburgh Penguins, especially their poster boy Sid. They go so far to make stupid shirts with silly catch phrases start scrums after the whistles. I am not saying Pitt is guilt free, but the Flyers are the best at it IMO.

I know I will get flack for this, but why are guys chirping in the offseason just to get attention?

They asked him a question and he answered it. I don't see what was wrong with that. It's not like he blamed the loss to NJ on Crosby and said it was his fault.

Do you really think Crosby was the only guy hacking him in the wrists? He took a shot at him on purpose IMO. Their mutual dislike for each other showed in that series. He could have just said "Got hacked a few times in the faceoff circle." If it was anyone other than Crosby, he wouldn't have mentioned names. Bet on it.

Ya, I don't agree at all rocket man. He got asked a question, would you have preferred he lied? Crosby being dirty is anything but a surprise.

As for whether he'd have mentioned names for anyone else, we have no way of knowing so none of us can really say. We especially can't bet on it.

I don't hate Crosby but he definitely does quite a few cheap plays. You can't deny that. I've seen Crosby crosscheck Zetterberg about five times in a row once.

But in all honesty.... come on.. you didn't hear Crosby cryin about his season ending concussion during the heritage classic against Washington did you? No. IF Giroux was serious about the accusations.. I think it seems a little out of character for him. I never expected a guy like Giroux to pull a crybaby move like that with the press.

Are you really suggesting we never heard Crosby whining about the state of the game that allowed his concussion to happen? I'm not saying he was wrong in his complaints, but he certainly wasn't silent. Giroux didn't really do anything wrong in answering a question. Plus the article is all about how modest he is. He doesn't sound bad in it at all. Some of that's spin, sure, but all of interviews contain much less complaining and excuses than Crosby's do. Definitely less hypocrisy.
