Last year there were some goalies I predicted would fall for awhile which ended up being true. I thought I could get a great offense then just count on Fleury plus one of my two other goalies being good. Fleury was pretty awful and Ward and Hiller both had down years. Going in to it I thought goaltending was my best area, it ended up being my worst lol.

In my 18 team league last year, I picked Lundqvist as my first pick (3rd overall). Stamkos and Ovechkin were picked before my pick. This entirely depends on the league and my draft position though, for the most part I evaluate what everyone's picking, but I have a hot list of guys I specifically want as they apply to my league statistics and how many players there are. I generally try to go for sleepers in later rounds and hope they work out. This sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I ended up winning that 18 team league riding the coat tails of the King. To me, unless your stats are really offense-sided, I am prone to picking the best available goalie first as there are only 30 starters (at best) in the league and you don't want to be stuck with a middle of the pack goalie. Sometimes you get lucky (Mike Smith), but most times, it never works out well. Every pool I have been in, the winning team had superb goaltending even if the goaltending stats weren't as heavily weighted.

Couldn't help but laugh at the bolded.

I think I'm going to go for one of the really reliable guys like Lundqvist this year instead of a guy like Malkin or Stamkos.

Thanks for pointing that out Tim. I didn't pick up on that until you pointed it out. I will change my wording for next time.
