Not looking good for the CBA. Apparently Bettman has said that if a new agreement is not reached by Sept. 15 (the date the old one expires), that the owners will not allow the season to begin. Do you think this is a real threat or the owners just trying to get the NHLPA to speed up their end of the negotiations?

I think this is a tactic from Bettman to get things moving. This is how these things work. The owners will lock out the players, but he wants to push them to make something happen. That way if there is a lockout, the NHL can blame the players.
I don't see a scenario where no time is missed. We are only a month away and the counter offer from the players only comes tomorrow. Then the real negotiations start.

This is sad. They have known this was coming for some time. It doesn't really hurt the players or the owners; it hurts the fans. I have been looking forward to the hockey season since the final buzzer sounded on June 11th. I want to start my fantasy hockey season. I want to watch the Caps on TV. I hope they reach an agreement soon.

Not that any of what I'm about to say has any bearing on the CBA talks... but I used to work for a union and they had talks ongoing with the employer when it came to renewing our contract.... you would be surprised how fast things can get done when time is of essence... I honestly think there will be a new CBA and a season this year... but it might not be a full 82 game season if they can't settle some of the big issues that they are so far apart on.

Ya, we are locking out for sure. I'd be surprised to see the season start before the winter classic.
The players seem to have the right idea with their proposal and how to solve the issue at hand. The owners can't even agree among themselves on how the NHL should be structured let alone agree with the players.
