    2013 Team

Hey guys, I just drafted in my public Yahoo league and I thought I'd post my team to see how you think I did. I had the first overall pick and it's a 12 team rotisserie league. Stats are G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, HIT, BLK, W, GAA, SV%, SHO.

    Here's how I drafted:

    1. (1) Evgeni Malkin C,RW
    2. (24) Jonathan Toews C
    3. (25) Ilya Bryzgalov G
    4. (48) Dustin Byfuglien RW,D
    5. (49) Ryan Getzlaf C
    6. (72) Antti Niemi G
    7. (73) Max Pacioretty LW
    8. (96) Joffrey Lupul LW,RW
    9. (97) Duncan Keith D
    10. (120) Dan Hamhuis D
    11. (121) Brandon Dubinsky C,LW
    12. (144) Dmitry Kulikov D
    13. (145) Kris Versteeg LW,RW
    14. (168) Ryan O'Reilly C
    15. (169) James Reimer G
    16. (192) Adam Larsson D

I am pleased with the results. You might think I picked up Dubinsky earlier than I should have but I had one LW spot left to fill on my main roster and needed the boost in PIM. I used the LWL draft kit and my only categories where I was under 100 FSI were assists (93.4) and powerplay points (90.6). I am fairly strong in hits and blocked shots. Versteeg should help in PPP when he plays.

    Thought/comments?

I think your team looks pretty good. I will be interested to see how Buff does this year.

I like it. It's very difficult to build the 'perfect' rotisserie team. Fortunately, you don't have to be perfect to win the league, so I wouldn't sweat the A and PPP categories at this point.

With my eternal caveat that it's impossible to know how someone did in a draft with certainty without the full results, it appears you did quite well. At the position you drafted them, I especially like the Getzlaf, Niemi, and Lupul picks. Do you mind posting a brief list of the highest rated players who weren't drafted? I'm not particularly fond of O'Reilly and Larsson; however, they may have been the best options at the time.

O'Reilly is still young. I think he will be a player. I like Jay Harrison as an option to Larsson. He gives you sog, which are scoring chances, hits, and blocks. I usually get a stud d-men then fill d with stat stuffers that are no name guys. The draft kit is awesome. I don't have to do much summer homework.

Just hope these guys get to play.

I should note that Larsson as my final pick was just a homer pick to get him on me team because I like him. I've actually dropped him for Justin Faulk since the draft. And it's only a 12 team league so there are still a lot of high quality players remaining which I can swap out O'Reilly for if they are a better option.

Here are some of the FA players I could pick up:
    Blake Wheeler
    Teddy Purcell
    Pascal Dupuis
    Tomas Plekanec
    David Desharnais
    Steve Ott
    Nick Foligno
    Mikhail Grabovski
    Jiri Hudler
    Ian White
    Matt Read
    Sam Gagner
    Jussi Jokinen
    Martin Hanzal
    Derek Roy
    David Perron
    Alex Tanguay
    Adam Henrique
    Curtis Glencross
    Cody Hodgson

...I'll stop there but you see what I mean.

In terms of Harrison, he definitely had a nice surprise season last year. However, dont expect it again. Pitkanen was hurt, Faulk was still learning, and the Canes added Corvo. Harrison should see no PP time which will hurt his stats tremendously.

Internal, I would drop O'Reilly for Wheeler immediately. You need assists and PPP? He gives you both, and frankly, he's just in another level of talent compared to O'Reilly. Not dissing RO but, in my opinion, he's a better real player than fantasy player.

Cody Hodgson is going to be a stud.

I'm not sold on Cody Hodgson yet so I don't feel comfortable picking him up. I did swap out O'Reilly for Blake Wheeler though. I think that was a good call. And I'm pretty happy to start the season (whenever that is) with the players I'm currently carrying.
