Agreed. It's just such a pointless and stupid rule. I've seen players go to hit the puck back with their stick and their hands are gripped close to the blade (some use this as a face-off strategy) and they miss and hit the puck on the back swing. So they were just penalized for missing a puck and helping the other team win a face-off...such an awful rule...

This isn't volleyball or american football or checkers (or any other sport/game where you play the ball/whatever with your hands), you play hockey with a stick so get your hands away from the puck and you'll be fine. Maybe a bit of bias but I've seen the Penguins do this a lot when I've watched them play and to me it's just cheating. Accidental touching of the puck with the hand obviously needs discretion or grabbing a high puck with nobody around but in a crowded area use your stick like you're supposed to.

I think it's great. Just take the draw with your stick, stop trying to cheat.

I just find it ridiculous that if you accidentally touch the puck with your hand, even if you hit it to the other team, it's a penalty. Just seems like a bit of overkill to me.

I like the rule. Like Rob said, play the puck with your stick.

Lacrosse is very similar in that ... obviously you use a meshed stick instead of a hockey stick ... but you still CANNOT grab the ball in any fashion unless you are a goalie ...
and in lacrosse, instead of pulling back on a 'face-off' (as you do in hockey) you have to push forward and scoop the ball up
... that's nor here nor there but hey, maybe you learned something today
